In Memory: George R. Stiles

George R. Stiles, 80, of Council Bluffs died January 16 at Risen Son Christian Village.

He was born in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1938 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a switch foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad for 41 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Southside Christian Church, American Legion Rainbow Post No 2, the UPRR Old Timers and United Transportation Union Local No. 646.

Mr. Stile and his wife, Hazel M. (Trimmer), were married 59 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Peggy Lindsay and husband, Dennis, and Pamela Snyder and husband, David, all of Council Bluffs; two sons, Michael R. and wife, Margie, and Patrick L. and wife, Patti, all of Council Bluffs; a sister, Shirley Smith, and husband, Art, of Bentley; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family was held Thursday from 6:30 to 8 P.M. at Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral was held Friday at 11 A.M. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Hollers of Southside Christian Church officiating. Burial was in the Silver City Cemetery with Military rites conducted by American Legion Rainbow Post No. 2.

Memorial may be offered to the Southside Christian Church.
