In Memory: Earl Theodore Lippold

Earl Theodore Lippold, 75, of rural Shelby died January 16, 2001 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

He was born on January 20, 1925 in Pleasant Township in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. He was one of five children in the family of George and Hertha Bornholdt Lippold.

Earl attended Pleasant School Number 6 through the eight grade. He worked on the home farm until he was drafted into the military in 1948. He was sent to Fort Lewis, Washington for his training and while there received the sixth highest score for marksmanship in the 2nd Infantry Division. Earl was discharged just prior to the Korean War.

Earl married Joanne Joyce Popp on June 14, 1953 in Walnut, Iowa. They were the parents of two sons, Bruce and Reno.

Earl and Joanne farmed near Minden in the early years of their marriage. They then moved to a farm near Avoca before retiring to acreage near Shelby in 1985.

Earl was known for his love of the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He possessed an extensive knowledge of firearms and had a large gun collection.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Willis and Loring.

Survivors include his wife Joanne; sons Bruce and his wife Susan of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Reno and his wife Mi Ae of Sioux City, Iowa; two granddaughters, Linda Jennifer Lippold and Alayah Lynn Lippold; sister, Dorothy Schneider and here husband Tony of Columbus, Nebraska; brothers Larry and his wife Aldine of Avoca; sister-in-law Evelyn Lippold and Donna Lippold, both of Avoca; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation with the family was held Wednesday evening at Knutson Funeral Home in Avoca. Funeral ceremonies were held Thursday morning at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Hutchins and Pastor Bruce Lippold officiating.

Fred Funston American Legion Post #227 provided military graveside services at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca.
