Bruce L. Barnett, age 81, of Underwood, Iowa, passed away June 12, 2008, at his home.

Bruce was born November 4, 1926, in Underwood, to the late Ralph M. and Gertrude (Hampel) Barnett. He graduated from Underwood High School in 1944 and served his country in the US Army during WWII. After his return from the war, Bruce married Virginia Crowl on August 8, 1949. To this union 4 children were born. Bruce was a lifetime farmer and agricultural truck driver. He was a member of Underwood Lutheran Church; Neola American Legion Post #330; past treasurer of UMBA; board member of Western Iowa Mutual Insurance Association and was a former Citizen of the Year in Underwood.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dave Barnett in 2007; brothers, Jack Barnett in 1980 and Bill Barnett in 2003.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Barnett, of Underwood; daughters, DeAnn Fritsch, of Neola, Denise Barnett, of Underwood; son, Duane Barnett and wife, Melody, of Council Bluffs; 6 grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jane Barnett of Underwood; sister, Zola Beth Leonard, of Logan; sister-in-law, Kathryn Barnett, of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family, Saturday, 4 to 6 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral service, Sunday, 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary with Rev. Dr. Eberhard A. Hering, pastor of Underwood Lutheran Church officiating. Interment Hazel Dell Cemetery with a lunch following at Underwood Lutheran Church. The family will direct memorials.
