Marjorie died at 11:00 a.m. on July 1st, 1987 at Lutheran Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 73. Immediate cause of death was “cardio-respiratory failure due to or as a consequence of Cancer of the floor of the mouth.” Interval between onset and death: approx. 17 months.

The following obituary for Marjorie Hemmingsen is copied from the Council Bluffs Nonpariel:

"Marjorie H. Hemmingsen, 73, of 3530 Ave. A, died Wednesday at an Omaha hospital.

She was a Dunlap native, and lived in Council Bluffs 52 years.

She was the food-service manager for 10 years at the Council Bluffs Elks Club and for 14 years at Thomas Jefferson High School. She retired in 1979.

Mrs. Hemmingsen was a member of the Queen of the Apostles Church, Altar and Rosary Society.

She was a graduate of Soldier High School in 1932.

She and her husband Robert J. were married 51 years.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by son, Robert L. of Arvada, Colo.; daughters, Mary L. of Council Bluffs, Linda K. Porter of Glenwood; sisters; Bernice Goodman and Maxine Travis of Council Bluffs, Ruth Carberry of Crescent; and six grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Queen of the Apostles Church. The Rev. Larry Hoffman will officiate.

Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.

Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Beem-Belford Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society."
