Wayne L. Lewis

The funeral for Wayne L. Lewis, 80, of Council Bluffs will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Earl Harris of Peace Church of the Brethren officiating.

Mr. Lewis died Jan. 7 at Montgomery County Hospital in Red Oak.

He was born in Council Bluffs. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, serving before and during World War II. From 1945 to 1963, he was a mail handler with Union Pacific Railroad. From 1963 until 1981, he was a manager for Goodrich Dairy Stores. After his retirement in 1981, he worked part-time at First National Bank and Pony Express. Also, from 1961 to 1964 he operated "Mr. Softee." He was an avid bowler and member of Peace Church of the Brethren. He and his wife, Dorothy L. (Gahm), observed their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 14, 2002.

Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Carlson and granddaughter, Denise Robinson.

Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter, Pam Murray, and husband, Don, of Glenwood; son-in-law, Tom Carlson, of Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters, Mildred Diller of Blair, Neb., and Darlene Berry of Corning, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.

Visitation with the family will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Rainbow Post No. 2.

Memorials may be offered to Peace Church of the Brethren or Alzheimer's Association.
