Earl B. Gabel (1925-2008)

Earl B. Gabel, age 83, of Council Bluffs, passed away March 20, 2008.

He was born March 19, 1925, in Keokuk, Iowa to the late Emil M. and Flossie R. (Haish) Gabel. Earl was a 1942 graduate of Keokuk, Iowa High School and a 1949 graduate of University of Iowa. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a tail gunner. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, National Association of Life Underwriters, Toastmasters International, American Legion, Eagles Lodge and was an agency manager with State Farm Insurance for 25 years retiring in 1986.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Burnett, Marshall and Donald Gabel.

Survivors include his wife, Iona (Ganzhorn) Haight-Gabel of Council Bluffs; daughters, Linda Eileen Gabel and husband Tyler Shepherd and their son Tyler of Sparks, Nev., Heidi Mae Lindsay and husband Charles, of Suisun City, Calif.; brothers, Ray Gabel and wife Betty, Eugene Gabel and wife Berniece, Dale Gabel and wife Nellie; and sisters-in-law, Helen Gabel and Barbara Gabel all of Keokuk, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Rev. Dr. Duane Anunson officiating. The American Legion will provide military honors. Family and friends are invited to gather at Our Savior's Lutheran Church following the chapel service. Burial of cremains will be held at Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa, Friday at 1:00 p.m., with military honors by Air Force Honor Guard.
