In Memory: George J. Soppe

George J. Soppe, 75, of Neola, died August 11, 2003 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.

He was born February 27, 1928 at Neola to George and Alice (Whitmore) Soppe.

George graduated with the Neola High School Class of 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He operated a tank wagon for Mobil Oil fog 18 years and worked for the City of Neola for 24 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Neola and of Neola American legion Post #330.

George married Ruth Hayes on November 6, 1949.

He was preceded in death by a son, Craig Soppe, in 1972, and by a granddaughter, Jill.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Soppe of Neola; three daughters, Pam Lauck and her husband David of Centennial, Colorado, Debbie Lund and her husband Dennis of Minden and Dyan Schuning and her husband Richard of Neola; three sons, Bruce Soppe and his wife Cindy of Neola, Brad Soppe and his wife Kathy of Lakewood, Colorado and Kriss Soppe and his wife Terri of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; three sisters, Geraldine Gardner and her husband Dean of Neola, Alice Schnitker and her husband Jack of Laramie, Wyoming, and Cloretta Whaley of Greybull, Wyoming.

Visitation with the family was Tuesday evening at the First Presbyterian Church in Neola. Funeral service was to be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Dean Sparr, pastor, officiating.

Burial was to be in the Neola Township Cemetery, with a lunch following at the church.

Memorials may be offered to the Neola Presbyterian Church or Neola Fire and Rescue.

Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
