In Memory: Paul Leroy Hayes
(February 21, 1921 - March 19, 2004)

Paul Leroy Hayes, 83, of Council Bluffs died March 18. He was born in Raymond, South Dakota, and was a heavy equipment operator.

Mr. Hayes served with the 334 Army Engineers from November 1942 until November 1945 in Iran, Iraq, France and Germany.

Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by his parent, his son, Daniel, grandson, Chris Rucker and brother Richard J.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Putnam) Hayes; a daughter, Cindy Hayes of Istanbul, Turkey; three sons, Merlin P. and wife, Mary, Marvin E. and wife, Myung, all of Denton, Nebraska, Allen and wife, Tina Rucker, of Colorado; a step-daughter, Linda E. Bolton and husband, John, of Harlan; two step-sons, Douglas J. Hicks of Neola, Wayne D. Hicks and wife, Linda, of Council Bluffs; four sisters, Marie Nissen and Ruth Huddle of Omaha, Lola Wright and husband, Russell, of Spencer, Jeannette Williams and husband, Harold, of Kellerton; three brothers, Vernon G. of Glenwood, Dean A. and wife, Jeannine, of Osage Beach, Missouri, Dennis and wife, Ruth, of Ellston; sister-in-law Wilma Hayes of Lenox; seven grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family was held Sunday evening at McCurdy Funeral Home.

Funeral service was held at McCurdy Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Marvin Arnpriester officiating.

Memorials may be offered to Broadway Methodist Church.
