George J. [John] Thiel, 72, Route 4, was dead on arrival Sunday at a Council Bluffs hospital after an extended illness.

He was born at Treynor and was a lifelong resident of the Treynor community. He retired from farming seven years ago, and was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his widow; Mary; three sons, Duane and Dwight, both of Council Bluffs and Donald of Silver City; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cutler Chapel. The Rev. A. H. Hoersch, pastor of the Zion Congregational Church, will officiate.

Interment will be at a Council Bluffs cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Zion Congregational Church's building fund at Treynor.
