Dwight E. Thiel, 75 years, Council Bluffs, passed away February 8, 2008 at Mercy Hospital.

He was born May 3, 1932, in Henderson, Iowa to the late George and Mary (Cummisky) Thiel. The family lived in rural Treynor, Iowa, and Dwight graduated, in 1951, from Treynor High School. He served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force, during the Korean Conflict. Residing in Council Bluffs since 1958, he was a home builder and the owner of D & K Construction Co. He was a former member of the Council Bluffs Home Builders Association and was of the Lutheran faith. Dwight enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and Durwood Thiel; and sisters, Mavis Thiel and Delores Mark.

Survivors include his wife, of 31 years, Sharon Kay (Daniel) Thiel; sons, Dwight A. {W.} "Ike" Thiel (Julie), Council Bluffs, and Dana M. Thiel (Kelli), Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Diana Butts, Council Bluffs; step daughters, Patsy Trees (James), Leakey, Texas, Susan Squibb and life partner Shari Schisler, Council Bluffs, and Cathy Templeton, Council Bluffs; nine grandsons; five granddaughters; four great grandchildren; brother, Duane Thiel (Marvel), Crescent, Iowa; sister-in-law, Nancy Thiel, Treynor; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home, on Monday, from 6:00-7:30 p.m., with funeral service beginning at 7:30 p.m., Rev. Dr. E.A. Hering, officiating. Private family burial will be Tuesday, at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, with graveside Military Honors by American Legion Post #2.

Memorials may be offered to the American Cancer Society.
