In Memory: Darold D. Sewing

Darold D. Sewing, 89, of Council Bluffs, died May 23 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

He was born on March 22, 1912, near Underwood to Thomas and Sarah (Carlisle) Sewing and graduated from Underwood High School in 1930. He attended Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Army 4th Armored Division with General Patton in Europe during World War II. He was a repairman for Dennis Refrigeration for 27 years, retiring in 1977, and previously owned and operated the Sewing Drive-In on West Broadway. He was a member of the Council Bluffs Restoration Branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a former Sunday school teacher and Boy Scout leader. He was a former ham radio operator and was a past commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 5.

Mr. Sewing and his wife, Ruth L. (McMullen), were married July 8, 1939.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Kenneth D., and wife, Jean, of Council Bluffs; two sisters, Carol Butts and husband, Baron, of Council Bluffs and Rosalie Tawzer of Omaha; a brother, Marvin, and wife, Rosemary, of Minden; two grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family was held at Cutler Funeral Home.

Funeral was held Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Elder Jack Fox officiating. Burial was in Cedar Lawn Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 2, followed by a lunch at Community of Christ Church.

Memorials may be offered to the C.B. Restoration Branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
