Ruel Elbert Orme

Ruel Elbert Orme, age 82, of Neola, passed away February 5, 2008.

Ruel was born in Neola, Iowa, on February 3, 1926, to Elbert and Hilda Barrier Orme, and graduated from Neola Public School (Tri Center) and served his country in the U.S. Marines Corps 5th Division in active service in Hawaii, Japan and Iwo Jima. Ruel and Helen (Moen) were married on July 18, 1948. Ruel followed his fathers footsteps as a rural mail carrier and served the Neola area for 40 years retiring in 1984. Sons Randy and Terry, also worked as rural mail carriers. Memberships include First Presbyterian Church in Neola, Neola American Legion Post 330, Rural Letter Carriers Association, and volunteered on the Neola Fire and Rescue.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Darlene Steenbock and Sally Dirks.

Survivors include wife, Helen of Neola; sons, Terry and wife, Sharon Orme of Denton, Neb., Randy and wife, Bonnie Orme of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren Amy Smith of Council Bluffs, Jason, Lucas, Caleb Orme, all Red Oak, Iowa; other great grandchildren; sister, Beulah Witt of Lincoln, Neb.

Visitation, Thursday 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Neola. Funeral services Friday, 10:30 a.m. at Church, Rev. Dean Sparr Pastor, officiant. Interment Neola Iowa Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 330 Neola. Luncheon will follow back at church. Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church and Neola Fire and Rescue.
