Thomas Paul Martin

Thomas Paul Martin, 91 years, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away February 2, 2008, at Woodlands Rehab Center, Council Bluffs.

Thomas was born May 14, 1916, at Imogene, Iowa, to the late Michael and Katie Maher Martin, he was a 1934 graduate of St. Patrick's High School.He was a retired farmer and salesman, retiring in 1984. On April 23, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mary Grote at Neola, Iowa. They formerly resided at Emerson, Neola, LeMars, Iowa, Dixon, Ill., Scottsbluff, Neb., before moving to Council Bluffs in 2003. He was of Catholic Faith and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Jane Ann Martin in 1947; and by brothers, James, Patrick, Joseph, Michael and Edward Martin.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary; daughters, Mary Sharon Engelbart (Richard), of Omaha, Neb., Caroline McDermott (Jed), of Neola, Iowa, Elizabeth A. Benson (Rodney), of Beatrice, Neb.; sons, Thomas P., Jr. (Judy), of LaGrange, Ky., Raymond E. (Patricia), of Carrollton, Texas, Lawrence A. (Susan), of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Henry J. (Denise), of Hayward, Wis., Peter G. (Suzanne), of Rock Springs, Wyo., James G. (Debbie), of Wilsonville, Ore., John M. (Kathy), of Omaha, Neb.; 36 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; brother, Gerald Martin, of Council Bluffs; sister-in-law, Jeanne Martin, of Carroll, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. A Knights of Columbus service will be held at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Council Bluffs, Father David Fleming, Celebrant.

A luncheon will follow the Mass at St. Patrick's fellowship hall.

Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Imogene, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick's Parish, AseraCare Hospice, or Saint Albert Schools.
