In Memory: Roger A. Johnsen

Roger A. Johnsen, 59, of Council Bluffs, died February 3 at his residence.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he spent 18 years in Minden before moving to Council Bluffs in 1990. He was a teacher and a coach at Tri-Center School for 15 years and a district representative for Thrivent Financial for 22 years.

Mr. Johnsen was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church, where he served as a council member. He was also the past president of the board of Bethany Lutheran Home and a former board member of Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp.

He is survived his wife, Barbara J. (Nielsen) Johnsen, whom he married on August 3, 1968.

Other survivors include his sons, Todd Johnsen of Council Bluffs and Scott Johnsen and his wife, Lisa, of Hollywood, Florida; his parents, Emily and Arthur Johnsen of Paramus, New Jersey; his brother, Dwight Johnsen of Paramus, New Jersey; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Friday at Saint John Lutheran Church with the Rev. E. Jon Benson, pastor, officiating. Burial was at Ridgewood Cemetery in Council Bluffs, followed by a luncheon at the church. There was no visitation scheduled.

Memorials may be offered to Saint John Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
