Erma H. Hanson, 71, of Honey Creek died January 22 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

She was born February 19, 1933, in Carroll to Julius and Emma (Huegerich) Nieland. She previously lived in Crescent, moving to Honey Creek in 1971. She was a 1951 graduate of Rockwell City High School. She was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 25 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Omaha.

Mrs. Hanson and her husband, Daniel Hanson Sr., were married May 23, 1953. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Hanson, in 1990 and by her parents and brother, Julius Nieland.

Survivors in addition to her husband include three daughters, Debra Zach and husband, Phil, of Kearney, Missouri, Lisa Wait and husband, Ray, of Liberty, Missouri and Sonja Wehrli and husband, Mark, of Honey Creek; two sons, Steve Hanson and wife, Anna, of Ottumwa and Daniel Hanson Jr. and wife, Laurie, of Honey Creek; 12 grandchildren; sister, Mary Schroeder; and husband, Dan, of Tucson, Arizona; brothers, Donald Nieland and wife, Kay, of Carroll, Virgil Nieland of Scranton, Jim Nieland and wife, Pam, of Carroll and Larry Nieland and wife, Karen, of Tucson, Arizona.

Visitation was held Tuesday with Rosary recitation at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Omaha with Bishop Mark Pivarunas, pastor, officiating. Burial was in St. Bridget's Cemetery in Honey Creek.

Memorials may be offered to Masses at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church.
