Irene L. Nelson

Irene L. Nelson, 82, of Council Bluffs died Dec. 18 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

She was born July 21, 1920, in Spencer, Neb., to John H. and Marie (Nimic) Klasna. She previously lived in Spencer and Glenwood, and lived most of her life in Council Bluffs. She was a 1938 graduate of Spencer High School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, AARP, Union Pacific Oldtimers, Union Pacific Women's Auxiliary and Pinochle Club.

Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband, J. Fred, in 1997.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Nelson-McGruder and husband, John, of Council Bluffs, Sharon Haskins and husband, Bill, of Aurora, Colo., and Christine Reedy and husband, Mike, of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; one son, John F. III, and wife, Penny, of Longmont, Colo.; two sisters, Dorothy Dugan and Delores Clocker, both of Spencer; one brother, Don Klasna, and wife, Evelyn, of Spencer; one aunt, Clara Olin of Spencer.

Visitation with the family will be Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Graveside services and burial will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. David Leggett of New Life Fellowship Church officiating. Family and friends are to meet at the funeral home 10 a.m. Saturday for cortege to cemetery.
