Gus Doumis (1922-2007)

Gus "Dike" Doumis, age 85, of Omaha, Neb., passed away November 2, 2007 at his home.

Dike was born January 12, 1922 in Council Bluffs to the late George K. and Freda (Carstens) Doumis. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1940 and served our country in the U.S. Air Force during WWII where he was a POW. Dike worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for over 20 years retiring as a metal inspector.

He is survived by his son, David A. Doumis and wife Kim in Washington; one grandson; special friend, Barb Nixon of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sisters, Sonie Casson and husband Jim of Atlantic, Iowa, Judy Kelso of Surprise, Ariz., Helen Hoerner and husband Herb of Porter, Texas; brothers, Chris Doumis and wife Elsie of Pompano Beach, Flor., George F. "Sam" Doumis of Naples, Flor.; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family, Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Graveside service and burial, Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. Cedar Lawn Cemetery with military rites tendered by American Legion Post #2. A lunch will follow at the American Legion Club. Memorials are suggested to the V.A. Hospital in Omaha.
