Derwin W. Allmon (1920-2007)

Derwin W. Allmon, age 87, of Council Bluffs, passed away October 19, 2007, at his home.

Derwin was born July 30, 1920, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to the late William and Inez (Cunard) Allmon. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1939, and served our country in the US Army during WWII. Derwin attended IWCC and the Des Moines Academy of Law Enforcement. He was a deputy sheriff for the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Department for 20 years retiring in 1982. Derwin was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Iowa Policeman and Deputy Association, American Legion Post #2, VFW Post #737 and a former member of the Elks Club.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maxine Klinefelter; grandsons, Mark Klinefelter and Gary Benson, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sherry (Kerr) Allmon of Council Bluffs; daughters, Jacquline Allmon, Suzie Allmon, both of Phoenix, Ariz., Vicki Pearson of North Hollywood, Calif.; grandchildren, William Benson, Nicole Lord, Jennifer Gay, Jeremy Pierson, Jamie Pierson, Jeff Klinefelter and Stephen Klinefelter and many great grandchildren; 5 stepchildren; sister, Jean Cain and husband, Jerry of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Leslie Allmon and wife, Florine of Honey Creek, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family, Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Memorial service, Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene. Inurnment Ridgewood Cemetery with military rites tendered by American Legion Post #2. A lunch will follow at the church.

The family will direct memorials.
