Don F. Lee (1918-2007)

Don F. Lee, Jr., age 88, of Council Bluffs and formerly of Neola, Iowa, passed away September 30, 2007, at Risen Son Christian Village.

Don was born November 18, 1918, in Fargo, N. D. He graduated from Louisburg High in 1937. Don entered the Army in World War II, advancing in rank to 1st Lieutenant.

He was awarded the Purple Heart for serious injuries received in the Battle of Siapan.

Don married Mildred Cramer on September 30, 1944, in Paola, Kan. Don received his degree in Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 1950. He practiced two years in Atlantic, Iowa, and in 1952 moved to Neola, Iowa, where he practiced for the the next 30 years. Dr. Dale Welbourn joined him in 1959.

In 1990, he and his wife moved to Council Bluffs. Don was a member of the Neola First Presbyterian Church and the American Veterinary Medical Association, where he held all offices including president of the Southwest Iowa Veterinary Medical Association. He was a member of Masonic ABU-BEKER Shrine Temple, Amber Lodge 569, American Legion Post 330, and 11355 VFW, and retired Officers Association of Military Services.

Survivors include wife, Mildred; daughter, Kayleen Fink and husband, Robert of Fair Oaks, Calif.; sons, Richard and wife, Nancy of Omaha, Neb., Marc and wife, Ann of Fairbanks, Alaska; seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; sister, Dorrene Bristow and husband, Galen of Ottawa, Kan.

Masonic services Tuesday 6:00 p.m. followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral services Wednesday 10:30 a.m. at Neola First Presbyterian Church, Pastor Dean Sparr officiant. Interment Neola Township Cemetery with military rites by Neola American Legion.

Memorials to the church preferred. Luncheon will follow at church.
