Velda M. James, age 89, of Council Bluffs, passed away August 15, 2007, at Risen Son Nursing Home.

Velda was born December 27, 1917 in Council Bluffs to the late James and Della (Abel) Scoular. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1937 and was united into marriage to Willard "Bill" James on September 4, 1938. Velda was a clerk at Safeway Grocery Store for 19 1/2 years retiring in 1969. She was a member of First Christian Church.

Velda was preceded in death by her husband, Willard "Bill" James in 1984; son Willard "Jesse" James, Jr., in 2006; 3 grandchildren; two sisters and one brother.

She is survived by two sons, Marvin James and wife, Kathy, Gary James, all of Council Bluffs; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren; brother, Marvin Scoular and wife, Wanda, of Council Bluffs; sister-in-law, Mildred Baker, of White Cloud, Kan.; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the Family, Sunday, 4-6 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral Service, Monday, 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary with Chaplain Paul Crane of Risen Son Christian Village officiating. Interment Cedar Lawn Cemetery with a lunch following at the Elks Club.
