Velma Stanley, 96, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 W. First St. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services. Interment will be in Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
Velma was born September 22, 1915 to Jacob and Florence Luchsinger in Moline, Illinois. She married William Stanley in November of 1940. Velma retired from DMACC after working many years in the Registrar's Office. In retirement she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include sons, Larry (Pearl) Stanley of SC, Gerry (Margy) Stanley of NC, and Mike (Corrine) Stanley of MO; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Richard Luchsinger of NC. She is preceded in death by her husband, William in 1969; and two brothers, Charles and Jack.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Velma's cousin, Janie Beall for all of her help the last couple years at Mill Pond.
