Paul J. Smith, 59, of Urbandale, IA died at home surrounded by family on, February 28, 2012, after an 18 month battle with leukemia (AML). Paul was born June 17, 1952 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Paul J Smith, Sr. and Kathleen Louise (Rock) Smith. He graduated from Chariton High School in 1970.
He married Barb, his wife of 34 years, on February 14, 1978 and they made their home in Urbandale, Ia. Paul was a retired, over the road truck driver; he drove for TMC Transportation and Transport America.
Survivors include his wife, Barb Smith; three sons Eric (Jess) Smith of Monee, IL, Caleb (Jenn) Smith of Urbandale, IA, and Adam Smith of Franklin, IN. five grandchildren, Damon and Mikayla (Liz Bierman), Mallory, Addison and ElliJo; mother, Kathleen Smith; siblings Karen Young (Deb); Rhonda Nemmers (Tom); Duane (Teresa) Smith; Nancy (Ed) Sharr; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and various other family members. Paul was preceded in death by his father Paul J Smith, Sr.
A memorial service celebrating Paul's life and love of family and friends will be held, Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ.
