Arlene Dow, 89, passed away on February 8, 2012 in Walnut Creek, CA after a lengthy illness. She was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa by parents Fred and Maude Wenger. After graduating from Lincoln High, Arlene then went on to business school where she was introduced to her future husband, Victor Robert, by her friend and his sister, Verona. They married after his return from Panama and World War II. Arlene and Vic had three children, Victor Robert (Bob), Timothy, and Nancy. In 1970, they moved across country to Saratoga, CA because of a job opportunity for Vic. Several years later they moved to Torrance in Southern California and finally in 1978 they settled in San Ramon, CA.
Arlene was always active in her community and church. She loved art and she was actively involved in her church, with everything from teaching, to Children's Emergency, to Preschool. She loved sports, swimming laps until she was 80 and faithfully watching the A's. She loved children and was a Cub Scout leader and foster mother.
Arlene is survived by her three children, V. Robert Dow, Timothy Dow (Penny) of Des Moines, IA and Nancy Maxwell (Tom) of Danville, CA. She is also survived by grandchildren Chris, Brian, Erin (Andy), Ryan (Nicky), Rachel of Des Moines and Nick, Katie, Bailey Maxwell of Danville, CA and six great-grandchildren. Arlene is also survived by her sister Doris, sister-in-laws Verona, Vivian and brother in law Verne (Joanne).
Graveside services will be held at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa, Sunday March 4 at 2 p.m. Rev Claude Jones from Park Avenue Presbyterian Church will preside over the service.
