Freda "Katy" Farwell, 75, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 4, 2012 with family by her side. A memorial gathering will be Monday, September 10 at Brooks Tonini Chapel, 2135 SW 9th St. in Des Moines at 1 p.m. with a time of sharing at 2 p.m.
Freda graduated from Des Moines Tech in 1955 and married Carrold O. Knutson on April 1, 1955. Unto that union, Freda's three children were born. Freda married William R. Farwell in October 1972. Freda had many different occupations over the years but retired in 1994 after many years at Norwest Mortgage.
She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who had zest for life. Freda was a member of the "Sweet Adelaines" and enjoyed bicycling, reading, gardening and traveling. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Freda was preceded in death by husbands, Carrold Knutson and William Farwell; parents, Lester and Mabel Vos; and two brothers, John Robert and Don Vos.
Her memory will be cherished by her children, LaRita (Wayne) Boatwright, Doug (Kim) Knutson and DeDe (Jeff) Lewis; grandchildren, Melissa (Michael) Dally, Emily (Francis) Martin, Roxy Lewis, Dean Knutson and Rena Knutson; four great-granddaughters; siblings, Dorothy Jean VanDerleest, Vernie James, Toni Noe and Jay Vos and "The Boys" Chewie and Kuma.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association, Diabetes Association or to the ARL.
