Maxine DeGan, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, Iowa.

Maxine was born Theresa Maxine Johnson on October 20, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended St. John's Elementary School and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1941. After graduation, Maxine was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She retired after 29 years of service in 1984, taking a few years off to raise her children. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the VFW Woman's Auxiliary. In 1945, Maxine married Earnest Robert "Bob" DeGan. They lived in the Beaverdale area until moving to Bishop Drumm Assisted Living in 2010.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Joseph Johnson; one sister, Mary Kay Nesbit; and brother, Paul Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Bob; two children, Jerry (Jan) DeGan and Sharon (Duane) Lewis; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Jane Flanders.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, February 3, in Our Lady of Peace Chapel at Bishop Drumm Care Center, where the visitation will begin at 8 a.m., followed by a rosary.
