1922-2003Ray W. Griffieon, 81, died November 29, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 2 at Ankeny Funeral Home. Burial will be at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
Ray was born in Clinton, MN and after graduating from Farrar High in 1940, he served as a U.S. 3rd Marine in WW II. He had lived in Ankeny for 58 years and spent his life farming. Ray was a member of Albaugh McGovern American Legion Post #42, Polk County Farm Bureau (Past President), Ankeny Masonic Lodge, Easter Star (past patron), Polk County Cattlemen's Association and a 4-H leader.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Griffieon of Ankeny; sons, Harley Griffieon of Decatur and Craig (LaVon) Griffieon of Ankeny; daughter, Joan (Jerry) Long of Maxwell; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Leo Griffieon of Ankeny and sister, Nadine Anderson of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Ruth Griffieon and a sister, Clara Owen.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at Ankeny Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Albaugh McGovern American Legion Post #42 or 1000 Friends of Iowa. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register Mon 01 Dec 2003.
