Judy Miranda, 93, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones.

Services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral will be at 11 a.m., with a visitation period for an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at a later date.

Judy was born April 10, 1919, in Auburn, Iowa, to Julia (Heires) and Clifford Birt. She graduated from Fonda High School in Fonda, Iowa.

In 1941 she moved to California where she met, and on September 5, 1951, married, Walter Miranda. In June of 1954 they moved their family to Des Moines, where they raised their two children. Judy had many hobbies, including crocheting and puzzles. She was a member of many bowling leagues, enjoying a lifetime of bowling and coaching for over fifty years. This led to her being inducted into the Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She was also a member of Easton Place United Methodist Church.

Judy is survived by her son, James Miranda and his wife Sue; daughter, Kathy Leitch, both of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, with another on the way; and her two “girls,” her cats, Tiger and Lilly.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter R. Miranda; brother, Harold; and sister, Arlene.

Memorial contributions may be directed to an organization of the donor’s choice in loving memory of Judy.
