Bob Gruening, 59, passed away Monday, February 11, 2013 at Mercy Hospital. A visitation will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday followed at 4:30 by a Celebration of Life Service at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines. At 5:30 p.m. Saturday friends are welcome to join Bob's family at Sully's Irish Pub for refreshments and fellowship.

Bob was the son of William and Marjorie Gruening. He was a graduate of Valley High School in West Des Moines, and worked as an accountant and self-employed painter. Bob enjoyed his many hobbies, golf, and spending time with his family and lifelong friends.

He is survived by his wife, Becky; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" (Dave) Hennessy of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Jack and Erin Hennessy, two sisters, Gayle (Cliff) Smith of Mt. Vernon, IL and GiGi (K.J.) Johnson of West Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
