MRS. BERTHA McADOO

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 16th, for Mrs. Huber (Bertha) McAdoo, 73, who died Sunday at a Des Moines nursing home following a long illness. Burial was at Lowman Cemetery, Runnells.

A prayer service was conducted at the Walters Funeral Home in Prairie City at 1 p. m. by the Rev. Mark Sullivan of the Prairie City Methodist Church.

Funeral services vere conducted by Prairie City Christian minister the Rev. Kenneth Dean at 2 p.m. at the Runnells Christian Church, of which she was a charter member

Special music was sung by Mrs. George Frank, with Mrs. Dan Rartelma as accompanist.

Bearers were Jim Bullington, Frank Draper, Charles Freel, Raymond Boward, William Schlosser and Milan Town.

Bertha Freel, daughter of Samuel and Catherine Freel, was born near Hartford, Iowa, March 1, 1883. She married David Huber McAdoo on April 20, 1905. They established their home near Runnells and lived in that vicinity until 1945, when they moved to Prairie City. He preceded her in death August 5, 1951. She was a charter member of the Runnells Christian Church being baptized February 17, 1907. She later transferred her membership to the Prairie City Christian Church. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, G. W. club, Ladies' Reading Circle, and the W. R. C. Although her extended illness hindered her participation, those close to her will long remember her kindness, her hospitality, and her friendly smile. She passed away in Des Moines, Oct. 14, 1956.

She is survived by her three children, Sam of Rockwell City, Lorene Van Haalen of Prairie City, and Ralph of Des Moines, six grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mary Draper, and many other relatives and friends.
