Sandra "Jane" Larsen, 67, passed away in her sleep at her home November 25, 2012.
She was born May 31, 1945, in Des Moines to William and Muriel Lowry. Jane graduated from Johnston High school in 1963 and went on to receive her teaching degree at Drake University. Jane married Ted Larsen on September 2, 1966 and immediately after she began her teaching career. Jane taught second and third grade students for eight years before leaving her career in 1975 to become a full time mother. She and Ted welcomed their first child, a daughter, Anne Marie, into the world on February 14, 1975. Soon after on May 16, 1976 they welcomed their second child, also a daughter, Jo Ellen, into their family. Jane and Ted made their home in Cumming, on ten acres, and have remained there for the past 36 years.

Over her life Jane has been a mother to many pets. She had a great compassion for her four legged friends. Most recently a little Chihuahua named Maggie. Jane raised Pomeranians, Keeshonds and Pugs. She also grew up on acreage in Grimes where she cared for horses and even competed in barrel racing.

Jane had a huge heart and her smile could brighten any room. For fun Jane enjoyed watching movies, especially a good horror flick, reading, knitting, talking on the phone with her dear friend, Barb, and spending time with her beloved daughters and grandchildren.

Jane is survived by her husband, Ted Larsen; daughters, Anne (Brian) Quass of West Des Moines and Jo (Joseph) Keller of Midland, TX; six grandchildren listed in order of birth, Nathan Keller, Alizabeth Quass, Morgan Keller, Karissa Quass, Kamryn Keller and Brevin Quass; brothers, Dennis (Marge) Lowry of St. Charles and Michael (Candace) Lowry of West Jordan, UT. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Billy Lowry.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Furry Friends Refuge in West Des Moines or the Animal Rescue League. ~ The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Iowa Wed 28 Nov 2012.
