Orson "Reeve" McNitt, 89, passed from this life on November 20, 2012. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the West Des Moines Methodist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Reeve was born September 23, 1923 to Bert and Myra McNitt in Mason City. He graduated from M.C.H.S. and attended Hamilton Business School. He served his country during WWII and the Korean War and remained in the Army Reserves until his retirement. In Mason City Reeve worked at Iowa Hardware Insurance. He married Rita, and together they had two sons, Michael and Tom. Reeve moved to Des Moines and worked at Continental Western Insurance where he retired as Resident V.P. and Iowa Sales Manager. Following his retirement he worked at Prairie Meadows and as a door keeper for the Iowa Legislature. He always enjoyed family get togethers. He was a member of the Masons Gnemeth Lodge and the V.F.W.

Reeve is survived by his wife, Opal; son Michael, three grandchildren, Reeve (Mia), Michelle (John) and Ryan; four great-grandchildren; two step-children, Cheryl Jesse and Kevin Surber; five step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; sister, Sara Eike; and brother, Bert McNitt. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tom; brother, James; and first wife, Rita.
