Dorothy M. Stone, 88, passed away early Sunday morning, November 25, 2012 at Taylor House Hospice from complications of a stroke. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, November 29, 2012 at St. Ambrose Cathedral. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Dorothy was born June 21, 1924 in Davenport, IA to Eva K. (Hart) and Adison Wilson. She graduated from Davenport High School. During WWII she worked on the Rock Island Arsenal. She moved to Des Moines in the early 1940's where she met her future husband, George Stone at a YMCA dance. They were happily married in 1948 and enjoyed a 52 year marriage. They also enjoyed raising their five children and four grandchildren.

Dorothy was a member of St. Ambrose Cathedral. She belonged to many different prayer groups and sang in a lot of choirs. She also sang on WOI radio. Memberships included Black Catholic Ministries, Toastmasters, Omega Wives and Delta Patroness. Her passions included family, classical music, singing and travel.

Survivors include her children: Cassandra (James) Flomo of Des Moines, Diane Stone of Des Moines, Les (Claudette) Stone of San Diego, CA, Richard Stone of Colorado, Theresa Stone of Silver Spring, MD; grandchildren: Andre Stone, Jamilia Flomo, Fernon Flomo, Kimberly Carter; brother, Billy (Betty) Wilson; brother in law, Earl Stone.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, George Stone and her brothers and sisters: Adison, Jr, Herbert, Donald, Jack, Bob, Kay, Gloria, Madelyn and Virginia.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Dunn's Funeral Home where a Vigil Service will begin at 6:00 pm.
