Madeline died peacefully Saturday, November 24, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by sons Dick (Judy) of Iowa City, Don (Sue) of West Des Moines, and daughter, Nancy of Milo.

Madeline was quite the character and one of a kind. She was known for her wit and humor. Her sharp mind was actively devouring books up to the last few weeks of her life. The following is her "obituagraphy" she wrote for a residence packet while living at Ramsey Village.

I'm Madeline Neiman. I was born in Bethany, Missouri, May 31st, 1918, an only child - but "not" spoiled. I went to Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, for two years and Drake for the last two. My second year at Drake was a biggie as I met John who was in law school. In the olden days, one didn't marry while in school so we waited until July 2, 1941, to tie the knot. The first year of waiting was spent teaching school in Huxley, Iowa, and then a year with my folks in Bethany. December 7, 1941, arrived and resulted in John becoming an FBI agent for the war years. Our son, Dick, was born in Sioux Falls, SD; Don in Hammond, Indiana, and Nancy in Des Moines when John returned to law practice. We lived on 45th Street down from Roosevelt High School until all were out of high school. This was a great location for raising a family. We then moved to the south side on Wakonda Court and were there until we moved to Ramsey Village. Traveling was high on our favorite things to do. We didn't go everywhere in the world, but close enough. A Mediterranean cruise was a favorite. After five or more years of illness, John "left" us in 2004 and I decided to remain in the apartment at Ramsey. I enjoy reading and TV, but I miss my good friends who are gone, driving, bridge games, and slot machines - but we can't have it all! Besides my children, I have 5 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Our sincerest thanks to the Ramsey staff and Joan for their loving care and support. Madeline's wishes were to be cremated with no formal service held. A private gathering of her family will celebrate her life at a yet to be determined date. Memorials may be made to the Milo Methodist Church elevator fund, the Milo, WDM, or Iowa City public libraries, or IPTV.
