Obituary - Mrs. Dave Lamb

Edith Vivian Dale Lamb was born Dec. 31, 1895, in Morgan Valley, Marion County and departed this life at her home in West Des Moines Oct. 27, 1941.

The immediate cause of death was the after effect of pneumonia. Two years ago she suffered an operation from which she never fully recovered. She visited with the family on Sunday evening and bade them all good night and after a sudden change for the worse, through eventually looked for, early Monday morning she passed from this life into that life which is more abundant and which is enriched by the peace which passeth all understanding.

Edith grew to womanhood in Colfax and attended the Colfax schools. After graduating, she later attended Highland Park Business college and was employed as stenographer and bookkeeper for several years. She was married to Dave M. Lamb of Colfax in the year 1913.

The minister of the Methodist church of West Des Moines had charge of the burial services, assisted by Rev. Doughty of Colfax Methodist Church. The pallbearers were chosen from close friends and a friend of the local Methodist church sang. To the beauty of the service was added the silent tribute of the wealth of flowers. After short services at the funeral home in West Des Moines, the remains were taken to Colfax Methodist Church where the funeral was held. Interment was in Colfax cemetery where she had often mentioned she wanted to be laid by the side of her dear old Dad. In addition to many relatives and a multitude of friends she is survived by her husband who administered to her wants to the last and who did everything that was in his power to bring back health. A loving mother, Mrs. Olive Dale of Colfax who stood by her bed through all her suffering, a sister and niece of washing, D.C., Mrs. Sarah Howley and Miss Beverley Howley; two brothers, Arthur Dale, Jr., and Alton Dale of West Des Moines.

The Rose Beyond the Wall

Near a shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God's free light,
Watered and fed by morning dew,
Shedding its sweetness day and night.
As it grew and blossomed fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall
Through which there shone a beam of light.
Onward it crept with added strength,
With never a thought of fear or pride;
It followed the light through the crevice's length
And unfolded itself on the other side.
The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before;
And it lost itself in beauties new,
Breathing its fragrance more and more.
Shall claim of death cause us to grieve
And make our courage faint and fall?
Nay: let us faith and hope receive;
The rose still grows beyond the wall.
Scattering fragrance far and wide,
Just as it did in days of yore,
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will forever more. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News, Colfax Clipper or Des Moines Register.
