JAMES R. HANNA RITES SATURDAY
City Council Honors Former MayorJames R. Hanna, former mayor of Des Moines, will be buried in Glendale cemetery Saturday afternoon. Funeral services will be at Dunn's funeral home at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. Charles J. Dutton, pastor of First Unitarian church, will officiate.
At its regular meeting Thursday, the city council approved the following document in commemoration of Mr. Hanna:
We learn, with profound sorrow, of the passing away of the Hon. James R. Hanna, former mayor of Des Moines, and, later, member of the board of water works trustees, which mournful event occurred at his home in this city on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1931.
The death of Mr. Hanna removes one who, for many years, had exemplified the finest principles of good citizenship in this community.
As mayor of Des Moines for three terms, he proved himself a wise leader and counsellor in municipal affairs and helped to shape the destinies of the city during a critical period, in the direction of broad and progressive lines.
The cause of education was near to his heart and his influence was on the side of every worthy cause, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED: That we extend to the members of the bereaved family the sympathy of the city council and direct the city clerk to certify a copy of this resolution to them.
