HANNA FUNERAL PLANS PENDING
Awaits Word From Survivors in Other StatesCompletions of funeral arrangements for James R. Hanna, former mayor, who died late Tuesday afternoon, awaits word from relatives in California and South Dakota. The body is at Dunn's funeral home.
Death was caused by an attack of cardiac pneumonia after a short illness, though he had been in poor health for 10 years. He was 64 years old and lived at 1007 Clinton st.
He was a director and a former president of the Euclid Ave. State bank, treasurer of the Des Moines Morris Plan company and a member of the board of city waterworks trustees. He was known widely as a speaker and writer on city governmental affairs.
For more than 20 years he was widely known in Des Moines civil life. He was instrumental in passage of the commission plan law in Iowa while an instructor in Highland Park college and Des Moines university and later in the adoptions of that form of government by Des Moines.
Mr. Hanna became mayor of Des Moines in 1910, when he ended his career as an instructor. He was re-elected twice to the same office.
Mr. Hanna was a member of the First Unitarian church, Knights of Pythias and Prairie club.
Survivors include his widow, two children, two brothers and two sisters. The children are Robert and Ruth, who is society editor of The Des Moines Register.
F. W. Hanna of Oakland, CA., and George W. Hanna of Valley City, ND., are brothers. The sisters are Mrs. James F. Page of Des Moines and Mrs. George Davis of Langtry, SD.
Mr. Hanna was born in Geneseo, IL, on June 12, 1866.
