Agnes E. Benson, 95, died May 18, 2011 in Sparta, WI.

Agnes and her husband Keith, owned and operated Benson's B-K Root Beer Stand on Southeast 14th St. in Des Moines. They began in 1950 and Agnes continued in the business with her son Bob after Keith's death in 1967, until her retirement in 1979. She enjoyed the friendships she made with her employees and kept in touch with many of them through the years.

Agnes returned to Sparta, WI after retirement. She enjoyed reading, traveling, music, her Rebekah and Eastern Star Lodges and playing bridge. She said it "was the best card game ever". She remained active and lived in her own home until an illness in Feb. 2011.

Agnes is survived by her son, Bob (Peggy) of Des Moines and three grandsons, Rob (Marzia) and Greg (Allison) of Des Moines and Christopher (Marcy) of Cave Creek, AZ and four great-grandchildren, Erica, Lauren, Connor and Max. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Muriel Stark of La Crosse, WI, a niece, and three nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Keith, her parents and sister, Jane Schiebel.

A memorial service will be held on June 4, 11 a.m. at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home in Sparta, WI. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on June 4 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Online condolences may be offered at www.lanham-miller.com
