Hofer, Elizabeth Vernhard –
Elizabeth Vernhard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Vernhard was born October 13, 1860 in Wisconsin and died at the state hospital, Clarinda, May 27, 1943 at the age of 83 years, seven months and 14 days.
At the age of three years she moved to Alleman, Iowa where she remained until her marriage to Fred J. Hofer of Andausia, Ill. on Jan. 5, 1862.
They made their home on a farm in Illinois for about 27 years and to them were born five children: Mrs. A.N. Noble of Wichita, Kans., Ernest of Monticello, Ia., Herman of Rock Island, Ill. and Clair, who is now in the navy. One daughter, Lydia, preceded her mother in death

Mrs. Hofer was a member of the Methodist church since 1885. Funeral services were Sunday afternoon at one o’clock from the Arnold Funeral home with the Rev. J. H. Machlan in charge. Burial was in Alleman, Iowa.
