John Lloyd Howard, 74, who farmed near Ankeny, died Saturday morning in Iowa Lutheran Hospital of a heart ailment. He had been ill three years.

Mr. Howard was born near Des Moines and was a lifelong resident of this area.

He was a member of the Des Moines Valley Church of the Brethren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the church, with burial at Lincoln Township Cemetery, Ankeny.

The family suggests memorials be made to the children's department of the Des Moines Valley Church of the Brethren. Friends may call at the Ankeny Funeral Home from 4 p.m. today to noon Monday.

Mr. Howard is survived by his wife, Essie; three sons, Lawrence of Costa Mesa, CA., John of Des Moines, and Harold of Elkhart; two daughters, Mrs. Harvey (Hazel) Moeckly of Polk City, and Mrs. Walter (Lucille) Holst of Logan; three brothers, Ward and Rollie Howard, both of Des Moines, and Kenneth Howard of Milwaukee, WI.; a sister, Alta Howard of Des Moines; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
