Verna C. Howard, 105, died August 17, 2004 at Mill Pond Retirement Community. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 21 at the Ankeny Funeral Home, with burial at Oralabor Cemetery in Ankeny.

Verna was a lifetime resident of Ankeny. She was a member of the Ankeny United Church of Christ and Albaugh-McGovern Post 42 American Legion Auxiliary.

Verna is survived by a daughter, Marie (Gerald) Ballard of Ankeny; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edd and grandson, Jon Ballard.

Family will greet friends and family one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the Ankeny Historical Society.
