LEWIS JACK SANDERS 1923 to 2010

Lewis Jack Sanders, the son of Leo and Sarah (Davis) Sanders, was born January 17, 1923 in Estherville, Iowa and passed away on August 7, 2010 in Waukee, Iowa.

He will be cremated and a memorial service will be at a later date.

Jack graduated from Estherville High School in Estherville, Iowa and then attended Estherville Junior College. He also obtained his commercial pilot's license. Following junior college, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1942 to 1946. After discharge, Jack worked as a flight instructor in Britt, Iowa and Marshalltown, Iowa.

On February 15, 1947 Jack was united in marriage to Joyce Davis in Estherville, Iowa.

Jack, along with his father and two brothers formed and operated Sanders Ice Cream in Estherville, Iowa. In 1967, Jack and his family moved from Estherville to Iowa City where he worked for West Music Company until he retired in 1986.

Jack was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge. Jack enjoyed golfing and fishing for many years with family and friends. He also loved listening to music, especially jazz and the Iowa Hawkeye Marching Band. He was a loyal and dedicated fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and in his later years he also enthusiastically followed the Chicago Cubs. After retirement, Jack and his wife Joyce enjoyed several years of wintering in Perdido Key, Florida. Jack will be remembered by his quick wit and his never-ending sense of humor.

Jack was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jack is survived by his wife, Joyce of Waukee; his daughter, Jan Kuramoto (Robert) of Chicago, IL; his son, Davis (Terri Dermody) of Des Moines; his daughter, Lynne Schuneman (Norm) of Kerrville, Texas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.
