Max Raymond Gorsuch 1920 to 2010

Max Raymond Gorsuch was born on June 2, 1920, in New Sharon, IA to Archie and Hazel Gorsuch. He slipped into God's hands May 14, 2010 at Calvin Community.

He was raised in Oskaloosa, IA. He served in the National Guard, retired after 26 years at Younkers Store for Homes, and was a member of Clifton Heights Presbyterian Church. Max loved to travel (especially his 13 trips to Hawaii), country gospel music, camping, gardening and family. He enjoyed the fellowship and meals at the Southside Senior Center where he also volunteered. Max was a kind and gentle man.

He married Bernice Mulenberg in 1939. Their children include Ron (Dixie) Gorsuch of Grimes, Shirley (Jim) Brick of Eagle Point, OR, Cindy Newell of Glenwood, IA, and Karen (Emory) Wheeler of Des Moines, IA.

In 1971 he married Connie (Newton) Gorsuch. His stepchildren include Bill (Sandra) Newton of Des Moines and Craig (Marilyn) Newton of Winterset, IA. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice, his parents, his sister and stepson, Steve Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday at Hamilton's Southtown, 5400 SW 9th Street. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Clifton Heights Presbyterian Church.
