Carl Leon Ross, 54, of Solon, Iowa; formerly of Monroe, Iowa, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Celebration of Life Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Church, 209 N. 2nd Ave. E. in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church on Thursday.

Private burial will be at the Gifford Cemetery in Monroe, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the University of Iowa Digestive Research Foundation.

Memorials may be left at the church on Thursday or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, Iowa.

Carl Leon Ross, the son of Ivan and Georgia (Lewis) Ross was born July 23, 1955 in Monroe, Iowa. He was a graduate of Monroe High School in 1973, and later graduated from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. Carl married his love, Janice L. Wadsworth on June 6, 1992.

Carl had owned and operated Central States Boring Company, Inc. Prior to that, he worked for McLeod USA, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He had also been a Polk County Deputy Sheriff for several years.

Carl attended St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. He enjoyed antiquing, hunting, fishing, and all things automotive. Throughout his life, there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Janice of Solon; son, Lance (Heather) Ross of Newton; his two granddaughters, Addison and Aliviah Ross of Newton; two sisters, Linn Zibert of Des Moines and Mary Stewart of Monroe; and his favorite nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ida Baldwin and June Monroe; and brother, Gene in infancy.

Carl's family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics who took care of Carl. They would also like to thank all of you who have had Carl on your Prayer List over these past months and thank all the family and friends for their personal support.
