Gloria Starr Cleven, 72, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A celebration of Gloria's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 10, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny. Interment will take place at Glendale Cemetery, in Des Moines.

Gloria was born on October 15, 1936 in Guthrie Center, Iowa to Elmer and Elaine (Tibben) Kopaska. She was a graduate of Guthrie Center High School and had attended Simpson College. On November 17, 1960, Gloria married Roger Dean Cleven in Omaha, NE and their marriage was blessed with three children. she was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Guthrie Center. Gloria was a loving, caring and devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; her shining presence will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 49 years, Roger Cleven of Des Moines; mother, Elaine Kopaska of Coon Rapids, IA; three children, Jeffrey Cleven of Cumming, IA, James(Jody) Cleven of Waukee and Jeanette(Kirk) Steinfeldt of Polk City; brother, Elmer Jr.(Linda) Kopaska; sister, Sandra(Alvin)Lopez; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Nicholas, Taylor, Tyler, Hannah and Peyton; and a host of several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Gloria was preceded in death by her father in 2007.

The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel in Des Moines.

The family is extremely thankful for the wonderful care they received from Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Manor Care and Mercy Hospice-Johnston and would like to give a very special thank you to her In-Home Caregivers, Yolanda and Sarah.
