Irene James, 83, passed away Monday, September 7, 2009, at Clearview Nursing Home in Clearfield, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Graveside services will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Villisca Cemetery in Villisca, IA.
Irene was born April 13, 1926, the youngest of four children, to Cora Grace (Wilson) and Albert LeRoy James in rural Taylor County, Iowa. She attended rural schools and graduated from Corning High School in 1944. After attending Normal Training she taught for two years in the Taylor/Adams counties area. Irene moved to Des Moines and attended American Institute of Business. She had worked at Christian Church Regional Office, Westminster Presbyterian Church and retired from Iowa Conference United Methodist Church in 1993.
Irene is survived by her sister, Helen Hagge of Erskine, MN; her nieces and nephews, Terry James of Excelsior Springs, MO, Jimmy Hagge of Brooks, MN, Joanna Wengel of Alsip, IL, Betty Johnson of Fosston, MN, Jennifer Moore of Corning, IA, and Joyce Stufflebeam of Adel, IA.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church in Des Moines.
