Jean Smith Chenoweth, 87, died at her home in Wesley Acres on May 29, 2003 after a long struggle with Alzheimers Disease.

Jean grew up and raised a family in Des Moines, but in mid-life moved with her husband, Ed Smith, to Jupiter, Fla. After Ed died in 1980, Jean married a childhood sweetheart, Ken Chenoweth, who was also born and raised in Des Moines. Jean and Ken lived in Jupiter until they returned to Des Moines together in 1994.

With both husbands, Jean enjoyed a full life of square dancing, travel, golfing, gardening and the love of family and friends.

She is survived by a daughter, Nannette Hagen of Concord, N.H.; a son, Paul (Pete) Smith of Asheville, N.C.; a sister, Ruth Gustafson of Des Moines; a brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Mary Brubaker of Des Moines; a grandson, Eric Hagen of Seattle, Wash. and several nieces and nephews.

Highland Park Funeral Home will host services for Jean at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003.

Visitation will be one hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kavanagh House.
