Winnifred M. Gaskill Brokaw, 68, passed away on August 8, 2005 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. She was currently serving on the Stuart City Council and the chair of the Stuart Historic Preservation Commission. She was an instructor of vocal music at the Stuart and Stuart-Menlo Schools from 1958 to 1974. She had most recently worked for the State of Iowa as a Systems Analyst.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Stuart-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, of which she was a long-time member and choir director, with burial at Woodland Cemetery in Des Moines at 1:30 p.m.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ruppert Funeral Home in Stuart, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to her church.

Winnifred is survived by her son, Eric Brokaw of Stuart; a brother, Gilbert Gaskill of West Des Moines; her mother, Beatrice Gaskill of Stuart; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two nieces, other relatives and many friends.
