Guy L. Hornor, 74, a Sioux Rapids photographer for over 40 years, died in the local hospital Sunday morning about 10:20 following a succession of heart attacks and complications. Hornor entered the hospital on June 14 following his first attack. He was city clerk of Sioux Rapids for 25 years and served on the council for many years. Funeral services were held at the Green Funeral home at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon and at 2 o'clock at the First Congregational church in Sioux Rapids with A. L. He is survived by his wife, four children, two sisters, one brother and eight grandchildren.
Guy Lee, second child of Joseph Everet and Elizabeth Lee Hornor was born Feb. 8, 1877 near Heyworth, McClain county, Illinois. He passed peacefully away at 10:20 Sunday morning, Sept. 30, in the Sioux Rapids hospital following an illness of 15 weeks. Death, which was due to a heart ailment and complications, came as a welcome release from intense suffering. At the age of 14, in Feb. of 1891, he came with his parents to Iowa. The new family home was established on a farm near
Manson. About four years later the family moved to Manson, where he finished the last two years of his public school education. He then attended and graduated from the Effingham school of Photography at Effingham, Illinois. During the next few years he was employed in the Hawkins studio at Lake City and in a studio at Madison, S. D. On June 14, 1905, he was united in marriage with Grace V. Moore at West Plains, Mo. They went to housekeeping at Rolfe, and for five years he managed the Garrison studio there and also at Ruthven and Laurens. In the fall of 1910, he purchased the Jacoby studio in Sioux Rapids. Here he has made his home for 41 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Hornor were the parents of five children, four of whom are living. They are Mrs.
Zeta Martz of Sioux City, Lee Eldon of San Francisco, Calif., Helen Elizabeth (Mrs. P.H.) Liljestrand of Aiea, Oahu, Hawaii, and Norman Stanley of Yakima, Wash. They with the wife, Grace, two sisters. Pearl and Maude of Sioux Rapids, one brother Claude Stanley of Varina; 8 grandchildren, 4 nieces, 4 sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, mourn his departure. There are other relatives and a host of friends who will also miss his presence in their midst. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Ivan Dale and two brothers. Robert Eber in infancy, and Harry Everet in 1916. In young manhood, Guy confessed his faith in Christ as his personal saviour and was buried with Him in Christian baptism, thereby becoming a member of Christ's body, the church. While living at Rolfe, he placed his membership in the Church of Christ, at Laurens. He was a member of Enterprise Lodge A. F. & A. M , serving as secretary for many years, and also of Buena Vista Chapter Order of Eastern Star, of which he was a past patron. He took an active interest in all worthwhile community activities, served on the town council for many years and was town clerk for 25 years. His home was his castle. His loved ones, as well as the friends who entered there, are blessed with many cherished memories of his love, devotion and hospitality. Music for the services was furnished by Mrs. W. O. Innanen who sang, "The City Four Square," and Herman Dokken, of Linn Grove, who sang, "The Lord's Prayer." Mrs. Kenneth Cate presided at the piano. Pall bearers were Roy Burr, John Brummer, E. E. Thomas, Floyd Skelton, Howard Vail and Floyd Bowers.
