R. M. Hinn, 64, well-known in Laurens business circles, dies

R. M. Hinn, 64, well-known businessman in the Laurens community, was buried at the Laurens Cemetery here Tuesday following services at the Hitchcock Chapel.

Mr. Hinn, former owner of Hinn's Super Valu here, died early Sunday at Decorah of a heart attack. The Rev. Thomas J. Carpe, the pastor of First Christian Church here, officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Marvin Johnson, Lyle George, Jim Ketchen, Glenn Kees, Neil Maurer, and Donald G. Beneke.

A lifelong resident of Laurens, ~ Mr. Hinn and his wife were returning to Laurens from a three-week vacation trip when he suffered the fatal heart attack. He died at a hospital in Decorah.

Laurens High Graduate

Robert Maurice Hinn, son of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Hinn, was born Dec. 16, 1906, at Laurens. A 1924 graduate of Laurens High School, he attended Iowa State College at Ames and was graduated from Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines.

He was employed in Des Moines by the Jewett Market and Gordon's Grocery before returning to Laurens where he was in partnership for 14 years in Mather's Market. During World War II he served in the Navy, part of that time aboard the USS Hornet, an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific. In December 1946, he opened Hinn's Super Valu here and remained active in the business community until 1968 when he sold the store to his son, John.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars here, and had been a past master of Grace Lodge No. 519, AF & AM.

He married Irma Mather, also of Laurens, July 3, 1927, at Jackson, Minn. She survives, as do two children, Mrs. Jim (Marney) Norman of Primghar and John of Laurens; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. C. L. Sandahl of Austin, Tex. and Mrs. George Hoffman of Laurens. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Heidi Hinn.
