Services held on July 8 for Dorthea Brewster

Funeral services were held Monday, July, 8 from Smith Loterbour Powers for Dorthea Mae Brewster. Mrs. Brewster died Friday, July 5 at the Sioux Care Center at Sioux Rapids at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 27 days. Rev. George Harrison officiated at the services. Organist was Nita McLaughlin with Gene McLaughlin as soloist. Casket bearers were Rich Haldin, Darrel Oleson, Rob Nielsen, Dallas Hakernan, Steve Haldin and Doug Cheevers. Burial was in the Laurens Cemetery with the Smith Loterbour Powers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dorthea Mae Christenson Brewster was born August 9, 1918, the daughter of Martin and Ethel Greenland Christenson at Morris, Minnesota. She was educated at Morris and graduated from Gilmore City High School in 1935. Dorthea worked in Cheyenne, Wyoming before her marriage. On November 18, 1946, Dorthea married Paul Brewster at Laurens. The couple made their home on a farm near Laurens. Paul died on July 9, 1961. Dorthea worked as a waitress at Blondie's Cafe, as a cook at the Laurens School and later as a waitress at Stoner's Cafe. She retired in 1980 and entered the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids in 1993.

She was a member of the WaTanYe, Club, the Pythian Sisters, the Friendly Friday Club and the Stitch and Chat Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty, Mrs. Duane Ludwig of Sioux Rapids and a son, Bruce Brewster of Laurens; three grandsons, 6 step grandchildren. and 13 step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a sister, Fern Rice.
